Fuengirola will celebrate the I ‘Ciudad de Fuengirola’ Triathlon on May 16
The test is included in the XXVI Provincial Triathlon Circuit and will be held in the supersprint mode (400 meters swimming, 7.5 km by bicycle and 2.5 km running). 3/11/2026 – Next Saturday, May 16, Fuengirola will hold the first edition of the ‘Ciudad de Fuengirola’ Triathlon, a sporting event that will bring together triathletes from different parts of the province and Andalusia in the city. This was announced this morning by the Sports Councilor, Julio Rodríguez; the provincial delegate of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation, Miguel Romero; and the person in charge of security for the event, Andrés Sánchez, who have highlighted the importance of the municipality being the scene of a competition of this nature for the first time.
“Today is a historic day for the Department of Sports because, for the first time, Fuengirola will have a long-awaited event for fans of cycling, athletics and swimming. Many athletes have been demanding a competition that would unite these three disciplines for some time and we can announce that the city will have its first City of Fuengirola Triathlon,” said Rodríguez.
The test will be held in supersprint mode, with a course of 400 meters of swimming, 7.5 kilometers of cycling and 2.5 kilometers of running. The swimming segment will take place on Las Gaviotas beach, in Los Boliches, while the cycling section will run along an urban circuit that will run along Paseo Marítimo, Churruca street, Condes de San Isidro avenue and Ramón y Cajal avenue. The foot race will take place entirely along the Paseo Marítimo.
“The supersprint format makes it a very attractive modality, since it is short distances and accessible to all audiences. In fact, it will be the only supersprint triathlon on the Costa del Sol, which will allow many people who are starting out in this sport to participate for the first time,” highlighted the mayor, also highlighting that the event will be open to both federated and non-federated athletes.
Registration will open next week through the official website of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation and 350 places will be available, of which 50 will be reserved for local athletes from Fuengirola.
For his part, Miguel Romero congratulated the City Council “for joining the triathlon family” and explained that this test is part of the Provincial Triathlon Circuit of the Provincial Council of Malaga, made up of nine competitions that are held in different municipalities. “We expect a large participation, since the supersprint distance is very attractive for those who want to get started in this sport,” he noted.
Finally, Andrés Sánchez highlighted that “the objective is to consolidate this event within the Fuengirola sports calendar and for it to become a traditional event for the city over the years.”
The Department of Sports encourages all interested parties to formalize their registration and participate in a sports day that will combine swimming, cycling and running in a privileged environment such as Fuengirola.
