The Fuengirola City Council will make the use of small bottles mandatory to dilute canine urine on public roads

Last month’s Plenary Session initially approved the modification of the Citizen Coexistence ordinance in order to improve the health and image of the city’s spaces. Owners of these pets should pour a mixture of water and cleaning vinegar over the animal’s urine. Failure to do so may result in fines of up to 750 euros.

2/3/2026 – The Fuengirola City Council will make the use of small bottles mandatory to dilute canine urine on public roads. This was announced today by Mayor Ana Mula, in the company of the Councilor for Cleaning, Carmen Díaz, who has assured that this is a measure aimed at improving the health and image of all neighborhoods and public spaces in the city.

“Fuengirola is a city that stands out for the cleanliness and order of public spaces. And that is, to a large extent, due to the extraordinary work that our workers do, but also to the collaboration and involvement of Fuengirola residents. In this regard, one of the issues that worries us the most is dog urination. For several years now, we have been carrying out awareness campaigns to use small bottles with water and vinegar to dilute urine. Now, we go one step further and make it mandatory,” explained the councilor

In this way, after the initial approval of the modification of the Citizen Coexistence ordinance in its articles 23, 24 and 38, in the Municipal Plenary last February, the City Council has begun the process to make mandatory the use of a liquid solution of water and vinegar to clarify the urination of pets.

The same plenary proposal has established the fact of not carrying out this action as a light sanction, which could result in financial fines of up to 750 euros.

In this sense, Mula recalled that the local entity has been promoting this good practice for years through advertisements on television and municipal social networks, as well as distributing small bottles among neighbors to be used. Likewise, they have declared that they will intensify these campaigns as soon as the processing becomes effective and is definitively approved, throughout the current year 2026.

“Panulizing is not the measure we like to take the most, but it is necessary so that we are all aware that a gesture as simple as rinsing our pets’ pee in public is good for everyone. We have to guarantee, among all of us, perfect harmony and coexistence between neighbors, whether they are pet owners or not, as well as the general good condition of our public spaces,” he concluded.
