Children’s sailing returns to Fuengirola on March 14 and 15 with the Optimist class provincial championship
A nautical activity organized jointly by the City Council and the Fuengirola Sea Club, which will have the participation of about 65 sailors
2/19/2026 – Children’s sailing once again places Fuengirola on the Andalusian nautical map on March 14 and 15 with the celebration of the Optimist class Provincial Championship, an event that will bring together around 65 young sailors and is organized jointly by the Fuengirola City Council and the Fuengirola Sea Club.
The announcement was made by the councilors of Sports and Marina, Julio Rodríguez and José Sánchez, respectively, together with the representative of the Fuengirola Sea Club, Iñaki Ortego, who have highlighted the importance of this event for the promotion of grassroots sports and the promotion of the city as a nautical reference.
The regatta will be held during both days from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Three daily tests are planned, as long as weather conditions permit. In addition to the sailors from Malaga already confirmed, the competition will have participation from other Andalusian provinces such as Almería, Huelva, Seville and Cádiz, which reinforces the attractiveness and sporting level of the championship.
The competition includes three categories: Under-16, Under-13 and Under-11. The Club de Mar Fuengirola will participate in all of them, with promising young people who aspire to be in the positions of honor and fight for the podium in each age group.
The western area of the Fuengirola marina, specifically the area of the slipway ramp, will be exclusively enabled for the development of the test. The regatta course will be determined based on the direction of the wind: if it blows east, it will be located in front of the Los Boliches area; In the case of the west, it will move in front of the Castle area.
With this event, Fuengirola reaffirms its commitment to nautical sports and to the promotion of children’s sailing, consolidating itself as an ideal setting for holding official competitions and promoting the sports academy.
