02/05/2026. The Fuengirola City Council has attended to a dozen incidents caused by the passage of the storm Leonardo through the city. All of them occurred since the afternoon of yesterday, Wednesday, February 4. The operation, made up of Local Police, Firefighters, Civil Protection, Urban Ecology, Road Intervention and Cleaning, has been working, since yesterday, on prevention and attention to all warnings to guarantee the safety of neighbors and visitors and restore normality as soon as possible. There have been no injuries to people.
Given the warnings decreed by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), which placed Fuengirola at the yellow level due to rain, wind and coastal phenomena, the City Council activated the Municipal Emergency Plan in the Pre-Emergency phase.
Since yesterday, Wednesday, the measures adopted were the closure of public parks, access to beaches and breakwaters, the suspension of municipal cultural and sports activities and the activation of all emergency services. Likewise, the Junta de Andalucía extended the suspension of in-person classes in the Costa del Sol region for today, Thursday, February 5.
Mayor Ana Mula, accompanied by the Councilor for Infrastructure, José Sánchez, the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Luis Ponce, and those responsible for the Local Police and the Fire Department, toured various points of the municipality to supervise on the ground the incidents recorded and the development of the work of the municipal services.
The councilor wanted to convey a message of tranquility to the citizens, highlighting that no personal injuries have occurred, despite the intensity of the meteorological episode. The wind has been the main cause of the incidents recorded in the municipality with three tree falls and some detachment of cornices from private buildings.
From the first moment, Local Police and Firefighters have worked in a coordinated manner, responding to the different warnings, signaling affected areas, removing large trees and branches and guaranteeing the safety of both pedestrians and drivers.
For their part, municipal services have carried out cleaning tasks, removal of remains and assessment of damage, reorganizing the operation based on the needs that were occurring.
Despite the intensity of the wind and the magnitude of the meteorological episode, the response of the Local Police, Firefighters and municipal services has been quick, effective and exemplary. The City Council expressly appreciates the dedication, professionalism and coordination of the Fuengirola Local Police, the Fire Service, Civil Protection volunteers, and the Municipal Operational Services of Conservation, Cleaning and Urban Ecology.
Likewise, the City Council appreciates the understanding, prudence and collaboration of the neighbors in the face of this exceptional situation and continues to actively monitor the meteorological evolution, working so that Fuengirola completely recovers normality and to repair the damage caused in the shortest possible time.
