Fuengirola City Council reinforces the cleaning service with more than 10 million euros of investment in 2025

The implementation of the new cleaning contract, the renewal of vehicles, the replacement of paper and cardboard mailboxes and the installation of smart bins stand out among the improvements incorporated this year

12/12/2025 -Fuengirola City Council has allocated more than 10 million euros to street cleaning and waste collection services in 2025. This was announced today by the councilor of the area, Carmen Díaz, during the presentation of the department’s annual balance sheet, in which she highlighted the progress made in terms of modernization and efficiency of the service.

Díaz has highlighted that this exercise has marked the entry into force of the city’s most ambitious cleaning and collection contract to date, with an annual investment of close to 9 million euros, to which are added more than 900,000 euros destined for the cleaning of municipal buildings. “This new contract contemplates a profound renovation of the equipment and a significant improvement in the working conditions of the staff, which is already reflected in the state of our streets,” he noted.

Fleet and equipment renewal

Among the improvements implemented, the mayor has highlighted the acquisition of new vehicles and specialized machinery, an investment that exceeds 300,000 euros. Among them are: a new sweeper, with an investment of more than 229,000 euros; two open-box vehicles, for a total of 74,523 euros; and an electric motorcycle intended for supervision tasks, with a cost of 10,648 euros.

Likewise, the City Council has replaced the paper and cardboard mailboxes on the ecological islands with larger capacity models, with an investment of 67,956 euros, with the aim of avoiding traffic jams and improving recycling efficiency.

Smart bins and intensive cleaning

Another of the notable actions has been the installation of smart bins in different parts of the municipality, with a budget of more than 200,000 euros. These units make it possible to compact waste and optimize collection routes, moving towards a more sustainable city model.

Díaz has also mentioned the intensive cleaning campaigns carried out after the summer, which include the use of specific discs, high temperature water and specialized products to remove persistent stains. “The results are being extraordinary and highly valued by the neighbors,” he noted.

Municipal commitment and citizen collaboration

The councilor has stressed that Fuengirola continues to stand out for its cleanliness and order, as recognized by numerous visitors. However, he recalled that citizen collaboration is “fundamental to maintaining and improving this level of excellence.”

“For this Government team, urban cleaning is an absolute priority. We spare no means to guarantee a well-kept and pleasant city. The joint effort of the City Council and the residents allows us to advance each year, and our goal is that in 2026 the quality of service is even better,” Díaz concluded.
