All public educational centers in Fuengirola will improve the air conditioning of their classrooms during this school year
The Government of Andalusia has allocated more than 400,000 euros to improve thermal comfort and energy efficiency. The centers, in coordination with the City Council, must develop a project based on the needs and characteristics of each of them.
12/2/2025 – All public educational centers in Fuengirola – schools, institutes, the Official Language School and the Professional Conservatory of Music – will undertake improvements in the air conditioning of their classrooms during the current school year. This was announced this morning by the Councilor for Education, Carmen Díaz, who detailed that the Junta de Andalucía has allocated 418,712.49 euros to these actions to optimize thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Each center must develop its own project, adapted to its specific needs, in coordination with the City Council.
During a visit today to the CEIP Sohail, Díaz explained that “the Andalusian Government has granted a subsidy to schools throughout the autonomous community to improve thermal comfort in public schools. In the case of Fuengirola, we are talking about more than 418,000 euros that are already deposited in the accounts of the centers, which now must execute their projects before the end of the school year.”
The mayor recalled that tomorrow the monthly meeting that the mayor holds with the directors of the city’s educational centers will be held, in which “air conditioning will be the main topic to be addressed.”
Likewise, he stressed that “the schools are municipally owned and, as indicated in the circular sent by the Junta de Andalucía, since the City Council is the owner of the land and buildings, close coordination is necessary for the development of the projects.”
Díaz added that the City Council has been working for several weeks to clarify what actions are viable in each center and how the local administration can collaborate. “For example, if a school chooses to install air conditioning units, in many cases it will be necessary to increase the electrical power contracted by the City Council,” he pointed out.
Thanks to this investment, the eleven public schools in the city (Los Boliches, Sohail, Picasso, Andalucía, Acapulco, El Tejar, Syalis, Miguel de Cervantes, Santa Amalia, Azahar and Valdelecrín), the six institutes (Número 1, Ramón y Cajal, Eduardo Janeiro, Los Boliches, Las Salinas and Mercedes Labrador), in addition to the Official Language School and the Costa del Professional Conservatory of Music Sol, this year they will have actions aimed at improving the air conditioning of their facilities.
