Institutional declaration of congratulations from the Corporate Plenary to clubs and athletes from Fuengirola


11/26/2025 – The Plenary Session of the Fuengirola City Council has approved in its ordinary session for the month of November, held today, an institutional motion to publicly congratulate several athletes from the city for the merits achieved in different sports competitions held recently.

Thus, Mayor Ana Mula has congratulated, on behalf of the municipal corporation, the local athlete Dioniso Palencia Portilla, member of the La Baila Fishing Club, for his brilliant participation in the IX Andalusian Sea-Costa Master Championship, held on October 4 and 5 in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz). The Fuengirola native took third place in the master category, demonstrating once again his commitment, skill and passion for sport fishing. This achievement not only exalts his personal career, but also projects the name of Fuengirola at the regional level.

The young golfer Lucía Gómez Ponce has also been congratulated for the excellent result obtained in the Andalusian Under 16 Championship (Female), held on October 25 and 26 in Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz). Lucía, a resident of our city, has once again demonstrated her talent and commitment to the sport, achieving the title of Andalusian Sub-16 Runner-up, among the best promises of Andalusian golf. Their achievement is a source of pride for the entire community, and an inspiring example for new generations.

Likewise, the skaters of the El Tejar Skating Club have been congratulated for the excellent results obtained in the European Figure Skating Cup, held in Matosinhos (Portugal) between November 8 and 16. The club’s athletes have shown talent, effort and dedication, reaching a prominent place in international competition. Thus, in the Solo Dance modality, Francisco Cueto Porras achieved the Gold Medal in the Junior Male Category and Susana Martínez Cons achieved the Bronze Medal in the Junior Female Category. In the Couples Dance Modality, Almudena by Miguel Sánchez Martín and Francisco Cueto Porras won the Bronze Medal in the Alevín Category. These achievements are a reflection of the club’s commitment and the sporting excellence of its skaters, who with their efforts enhance the name of our town and serve as an inspiration for future generations.

The Fuengirola swimmer María de Valdés Álvarez, a member of the Mataró Swimming Club, has also been congratulated for her brilliant performance in the LXVIII Spanish Absolute “Open” P25 Championship, held in Barcelona from November 13 to 16. María de Valdés has been proclaimed Spanish Champion in the 800m Freestyle event and Spanish Runner-up in the 1,500m Freestyle event. These achievements reflect their effort, talent and dedication, and constitute a source of pride for Fuengirola, Andalusia and Spanish sport. His example inspires new generations and enhances the name of our city in the national sports arena.

Likewise, the mayor has congratulated the surfers of the Dreisog Surf Club for the extraordinary results obtained in the Spanish Surf Kids Championship and in the Surfito XV – Region of Murcia, held on November 15 and 16 in Murcia. The club’s young athletes have shown talent, effort and sportsmanship, reaching outstanding positions in their respective categories. Thus, in the Spanish Surf Kids Championship, Pedro Martín Dávila was proclaimed Runner-up of Spain (Under-8), Carmen Martínez Terrón was also Runner-up of Spain (Under-12), as was Aarón Sánchez Pastor, who was classified as Runner-up of Spain (Under-12). For her part, Carla González Atienza achieved Third place (U-12) and Carlos Sánchez Ramos also achieved Third place (U-12). For his part, in the Surfito XV – Region of Murcia championship, Aarón Sánchez Pastor was Runner-up (Sub-14); Bowie Van Eijsden – was Runner-up (U16); and Manuel Navarrete González was also proclaimed Runner-up (U-16). With these achievements, the young surfers of the Dreisog Surf Club become a source of pride for Fuengirola, reflecting the commitment to the sport, personal improvement and teamwork.

Finally, the mayor congratulated the young sailor Leo Ortego Cañamero, from the Club de Mar Fuengirola, for his brilliant performance in the II Optimist Andalusian Cup, held in Almería on November 15 and 16. The Fuengirola native has shown great talent, proclaiming himself Champion of Andalusia in the U11 category, a result that fills our city and local nautical sports with pride.
