The Fuengirola City Council continues to develop the additional Plan for Cleaning persistent stains on public roads

The action is currently focused on the Fairgrounds neighborhood, after having been carried out in Pedro Cuevas Square and the Paseo Marítimo. The plan allows action each year on 20,000 square meters with specialized machinery, high temperature water and biodegradable products.

11/13/2025 – Fuengirola City Council continues to develop the Additional Plan for Intensive Cleaning of persistent stains on public roads, an action included in the street cleaning specifications that allows for annual intervention on an area of up to 20,000 square meters of paving.

After the actions carried out in the Plaza Pedro Cuevas and the Paseo Marítimo, the work is now focused on the Fairgrounds neighborhood, specifically in the Plaza de la Hispanidad, where the Councilor for Cleaning, Carmen Díaz, and the councilor responsible for the area, Francisco José Martín, were present today.

Specialized and sustainable cleaning

The action consists of a specific treatment with specialized machinery, high-temperature water and biodegradable products, intended to eliminate especially difficult stains such as chewing gum, grease, candle wax, tire remains or animal urine, among others.

“We continue to develop this improvement included in the street cleaning service, which includes a special treatment to recover the original appearance of the flooring in different parts of the city,” explained Carmen Díaz. “It is not a conventional disc cleaning, but rather a more in-depth process with more effective products. For example, in the Plaza de la Hispanidad we have acted in an area where there was a large amount of embedded chewing gum and the result has been excellent.”

The councilor recalled that this treatment was already applied before the summer in Pedro Cuevas Square, and that after the summer season it was resumed on the Paseo Marítimo, in the section between the Puente de la Armada and the second entrance to the Marina. “In the coming weeks we will continue in Plaza del Carmen and Plaza González Anaya,” Díaz said.

Reinforcement in high-traffic areas

For his part, the councilor of the Recinto Ferial neighborhood, Francisco José Martín, has highlighted the importance of carrying out this type of actions in spaces with high attendance: “The Plaza de la Hispanidad is an emblematic area of Fuengirola, very busy and with many years of life. The markets are held here on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which generates an intensive use of the space and the need to reinforce cleaning periodically. Thanks to the constant work of the municipal staff, this place is maintained in a state of optimal.”

Finally, the councilor thanked citizens for their collaboration, “which is essential to keep Fuengirola clean and in the best possible conditions.”
