10/25/2025 – Manuel López Ayala is now a Favorite Son of Fuengirola after the institutional recognition ceremony held today at the Peace Palace. Mayor Ana Mula presided over the ceremony and presented him with the official appointment and the medal that accredits him with the highest local honor. The versatile Fuengirola lawyer joins the list of illustrious names in the city made up of the priest Manuel Gámez, the scientist Valeriano Claros and the former deputy mayor of Los Boliches, Pedro Cuevas.

“Manuel López Ayala has always had the word Fuengirola in his thoughts and work. Proof of this is the number of entities and groups attached to the file that has led to this fair appointment. Personally, I am moved by the social support that this proposal has had. And I say that it is fair because our honoree is truly an ambassador of Fuengirola. A witness, chronicler and fundamental actor in the transformation of our town to the dynamic and modern city that it is today,” explained the councilor during the event.
The initiative for his appointment came from the Municipal Plenary Session, which last March, unanimously of all its members, agreed to begin the file for the appointment of the highest local honor in favor of López Ayala. During its preparation, almost 1,400 individual signatures have been collected, as well as the adhesion of social, sports, educational and different local and provincial entities, in addition to the Malaga Bar Association and numerous professional offices.
Finally, in the session on September 24, and in the presence of a good part of his family, the municipal representatives unanimously supported the completion of the procedure, naming Manuel López Ayala as the fourth Favorite Son in the history of the city.

At the event held today, the veteran lawyer, María Jesús Martínez del Campo – the city’s first woman to graduate in Law – outlined the figure of the honoree, read the plenary agreement, and the highest authority of the city presented him with the parchment and medal that distinguish him with the aforementioned honorary appointment.
