10/22/2025 – The Juan Gómez Juanito pavilion in Fuengirola will host the V Martial Arts Gala ‘Pedro Cuevas-Dojo Shorei-Kan’ this Sunday, October 26, to benefit the Spanish Association Against Cancer. This was announced today by the Councilor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez, together with those responsible for the Shorei-Kan Dojo, Juan Francisco Padilla and José Manuel Mena, and the president of AECC in Fuengirola and Mijas, Belén Conejo, who have indicated that the event will begin at 11:00 am and that the ticket will have a price/donation of 5 euros.

“Today we announce that once again this year the fifth edition of the Pedro Cuevas-Dojo Shorei-kan Charity Gala returns,” explained Rodríguez, noting that “it is fantastic to see how our clubs continue not only with their daily role of instilling their sporting discipline in many students, but also in contributing their grain of sand to the civil society of Fuengirola. Once again, I want to thank Juan Francisco Padilla and all his team, first of all for elevating the name of the best Sports Councilor that Fuengirola has had and will have, such as Pedro Cuevas. “It is an honor that this gala bears his name and also that it has a charitable purpose, in this case for the Spanish Association Against Cancer.”

For his part, Juan Francisco Padilla explained that this activity arose “because I wanted to help people in Fuengirola who need it and it occurred to me to do it through a charity martial arts gala, with which I could raise money and help people in need in our city. Luckily every year we get more support from people and sponsors.”

The gala, organized by the Shorei-Kan Dojo in collaboration with the Fuengirola City Council, will also feature participation in the martial arts exhibition from different clubs in the province of Malaga. In this sense, Padilla has pointed out that “this year we will have exhibitions of Japanese Dance, Karate, Muay Thai, Kobudo, Korean semi contact, Tai Chi, Korean Sword, Shindo Ryu, Jiu Jitsu and boxing.”

For his part, José Manuel Mena explained that the martial arts gala “will also have the presence of the leadership of the Shou Rou Jing Federation and in it we will present some appointments.” Mena also encouraged people to attend the gala and thanked the Fuengirola City Council and the Spanish Association Against Cancer for their collaboration.

Belén Conejo, on behalf of AECC, thanked the City Council and those responsible for the Shorei-Kan Dojo “because I think it is a beautiful initiative, because in addition to making all these interesting disciplines known and making them reach all Fuengirola residents, it is also part of a good cause.”

To conclude, the AECC representative in Fuengirola highlighted “the importance of working hand in hand with institutions and private initiatives. Thanks to the institutions we have all these types of events that help us a lot, and thanks to the private initiative we can continue financing all our services, which are free and help cancer patients and their families.”
