The Fuengirola City Council organizes an excursion to Rute on December 11 addressed to the elderly in the city
The excursion price is 55 euros per person and includes bus transport, scheduled tickets and visits, breakfast, lunch and travel insurance. The registration period will open on October 14 at the premises of the senior area and the places are limited
9/23/2025 – The City of Fuengirola, through the senior area, has organized a new excursion aimed at the elderly of the municipality, which will take place on December 11 and as destination the Cordoba town of Rute. “This activity is part of the active and cultural leisure program promoted by said municipal department with the aim of promoting social participation, active aging and coexistence among the elderly”, as explained by the mayor responsible Cristina Bornao.
Rute, located in the Natural Park of the Cordoba Subbetic Sierras, is a town with Visigoth and Arab roots. However, it is especially known for its entrenched artisanal production of anise and Christmas sweets, which have earned it a prominent place within the gastronomic tourism of Andalusia.
“Every year, during the months before Christmas, this municipality receives thousands of visitors attracted by their festive atmosphere, their thematic museums and its traditional exhibitions. Among its main attractions is the Bethlehem of Chocolate, a monumental work that has been made for more than ninety years with more than one thousand kilos of chocolate, and that has become one of the main tourist claims of the town,” said the mayor.
The excursion organized by the elderly area includes the visit to the aforementioned chocolate Bethlehem, as well as a guided tour of anise distillery El Duende, where participants will be able to know closely the process of making this traditional liquor, as well as visiting the Brandy and Coñac winery and enjoying a product tasting. The entrance to a Cordoba courtyard is also included, recently awarded the first prize of the Patios Contest of the 2025, as well as the visit to the Rute Flower Museum.
The day, Bornao has pointed out, will be completed with a breakfast on the route and a lunch in a local restaurant, with a traditional menu in which water and wine will be included.
