The Fuengirola City Council announces the poetry, illustration and comic awards of the VIII Conference of Children’s and Youth Literature
In each modality, two categories are established, one for Primary students and another for Secondary students, as well as a special prize for students with different abilities. The works can be presented collectively through the educational centers or individually, delivering them to the House of Culture before April 24
3/24/2026 – The Fuengirola City Council has announced the Poetry, Illustration and Comic Awards, included in the VIII Children’s and Youth Literature Conference. This was announced this morning by the Councilor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, who offered the main details of both the Conference and the Awards.
“The eighth days of children’s and youth literature have arrived with the traditional contest that we prepare to promote the love of reading, illustration and books in general, which is organized between the areas of Education and Culture,” explained Romero, pointing out that “it is wonderful to see how, every year, there are more works presented, more schools involved, more teachers who are encouraged to have their students participate and I think it is a fantastic tool to bring younger people closer to libraries and culture.”
The councilor explained that this year there will be three different modalities: poetry, illustration and comics. And within each of them there will be three prize categories, one for Primary students, another for Secondary students and a special prize for students with different abilities.
The works will not be delivered signed nor will the name of the author appear. They will be presented in a closed envelope in which it says a poetry, illustration and comic contest. Inside there will be another sealed envelope that will contain personal data (name, surname, address, telephone number, educational center and course). They can also be delivered jointly by class, with a single envelope where the names of the participating students will be included.
In the poetry modality, it will be presented in DIN-A4 format, with a length of 1 page, written on one side and not exceeding 30 lines. The Illustration modality will be carried out either in DIN-A3 or DIN-A4 format. Comics may not exceed 2 pages, preferably in DIN-A5 (DIN-A4 folded like a booklet).
The theme will be free in all modalities although, preferably, inspired by the work of Gloria Fuertes. Each participant may present a work to a single modality or to all three, but no more than one to each of them.
The deadline for submitting works will be open until April 24 at the Concierge of the Casa de Cultura of Fuengirola, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
In each category there will be two prizes, which will consist of lots of books valued at 125 euros for the first and 75 euros for the second.
To conclude, Romero has encouraged “parents and grandparents to encourage the little ones, as well as educational centers, which always collaborate in this type of initiatives and encourage students to encourage their participation.”
