Fuengirola City Council improves Las Palmeras park with new green areas and renovation of street furniture

The action, which is in its final stretch, has made it possible to renew this public space and reinforce its attractiveness for the enjoyment of neighbors and visitors.

3/19/2026 – The Fuengirola City Council, through the Department of Urban Ecology, is completing the work to improve and beautify the Las Palmeras park, an action that has allowed this public space to be renewed and strengthen its attractiveness for the enjoyment of neighbors and visitors.

This was announced by the councilor for the area, José Sánchez, and the councilor responsible for the Fairgrounds neighborhood, Francisco José Martín, who have highlighted the importance of this intervention in a particularly busy area of the city, located at the end of Feria de Jerez street, next to the sports facilities of the María Peláez swimming pool, the Juan Gómez Juanito pavilion and the surroundings of the Fairgrounds.

“It is a very busy square and from the Urban Ecology Area we had been planning this action for some time to highlight it and improve its image,” said Sánchez.

Among the main actions carried out, the remodeling of the central planter stands out, where the covering of the circular bench – previously painted in white – has been replaced with limestone, a material that is more resistant to humidity and which significantly improves the aesthetics of the complex.

Likewise, different varieties of palm trees have been planted in the flower beds distributed throughout the square, organized in plant islands that provide greater landscape richness to the environment. Added to this is the installation of a new irrigation system that will favor the maintenance and growth of green areas.

The work has also included painting and fine-tuning the street furniture, both wrought iron benches and streetlights, contributing to a renewed and more careful image of the space.

The action, carried out in approximately two weeks, is now entering its final phase with replanting work by incorporating new soil and seeds to reinforce the plant coverage.

The Councilor for Urban Ecology thanked the neighbors for their collaboration and understanding during the development of the works, while appealing to their involvement in keeping this space in optimal conditions: “Fuengirola is done by all of us.”

Sánchez has also recognized the work of municipal staff, highlighting “the professionalism and dedication of the Urban Ecology workers, who once again demonstrate their ability to transform and improve our public spaces.”

For his part, Francisco José Martín has highlighted the relevance of this intervention in a residential environment with a high influx of neighbors, pointing out that “the square now presents a much more well-kept and attractive image, and thanks to the new irrigation system it will have more lush green areas for everyone to enjoy.”

Finally, the councilor congratulated the municipal areas involved for the result of the work and thanked in advance the neighborhood collaboration to keep this space in perfect condition.
