2/3/2026 – Starting next Thursday, February 12, at 7:00 p.m., the City Museum will host the opening of the exhibition ‘Circus’, the new project by artist José María Córdoba, made up of 36 small and large-format works. The exhibition can be visited for free until April 5 and is a very special celebration: the fiftieth anniversary of the first individual exhibition of the artist from Córdoba, who has lived in Fuengirola for years.

The Councilor for Culture of the Fuengirola City Council, Rodrigo Romero, and the author himself presented the exhibition at a press conference this morning, highlighting that ‘Circus’ proposes a symbolic and poetic journey through metaphors that reflect on current uncertain times, dehumanization and the need for solidarity and poetry.

“We are celebrating. Today we are accompanied by José María Córdoba, who on February 12 will inaugurate an exhibition with which we commemorate the 50 years of his first individual exhibition,” said Romero, who stressed that “he has been exhibiting his work for half a century without bending to fashions or other people’s criteria. He has always followed his own path, developing a personal language in the use of color and form, which has made him a unique artist.”

For his part, José María Córdoba explained that this exhibition “celebrates a very important date, because I have been working uninterruptedly for 50 years, with more than 200 national and international exhibitions. My first exhibition was in 1975, simultaneously in Córdoba and Seville, and since then I have not stopped creating.”

Regarding the content of ‘Circus’, the artist has detailed that the exhibition is made up of 26 large format paintings and 10 small format works. “The circus works as a metaphor, not as a central theme, but as a symbolic space where everything happens: joy, sadness, melancholy… That emotional universe is very present in my work,” he explained.

Pieces such as The Tamer or Black Copos evoke desert and reflective landscapes, while works such as Harlequin’s Siesta or The Trapeze Painter convey, in words reminiscent of the Golpes Bajos song inspired by Bertolt Brecht, “bad times for the lyric.” Against this, the large-format Fiesta series acts as a counterpoint, suggesting an invitation to carpe diem.

The exhibition brings together oil and acrylic paintings that stand out not only for their chromatic strength and compositional structure, but also for the mix of styles and references. The incorporation of images by other authors from different periods, together with the influence of cubism and deconstruction, place the work within postmodernism as a unique, contemporary and fully current proposal.

The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
