12/16/2025 – Fuengirola will once again be one of the venues for the 2026 Kings Basketball Tournament, which will be held from January 2 to 5 and will feature the participation of nearly 1,000 players. The announcement was made this morning by the Councilor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez, together with the representative of the organizing company QLSport, Nacho Macipe.
The competition, which reaches its third edition, will be held jointly in the municipalities of Fuengirola, Torremolinos and Benalmádena, and will bring together 80 teams from the Alevín, Infantil, Cadet and Junior categories, from the autonomous communities of Murcia, Valencia, Madrid and Aragón, as well as from different parts of Andalusia. In the case of Fuengirola, the matches will be played in the Juanito pavilion.
During his speech, Julio Rodríguez highlighted that this is the first major sporting event of 2026 in the city, underlining the collaboration between the three municipalities and the drive of the organizing entity. “We are very pleased to announce a tournament of this magnitude, which will have nearly a thousand players and more than 80 teams, and which reinforces Fuengirola’s commitment to grassroots sports and training events,” he said. Likewise, he has valued the participation of the local club CB Salliver, which collaborates in the organization of the championship.
The Sports Councilor has expressly thanked the work of QLSport and its manager, Nacho Macipe, “for the work they carry out throughout the year and for continuing to trust Fuengirola for a tournament with great projection, which I am convinced will be consolidated in our area, given the tradition and roots of basketball in our city.” In this sense, he has stressed the importance of “continuing to promote activities that encourage the practice of sports among young people and transmit essential values such as tolerance, effort, sacrifice and camaraderie.”
For his part, Nacho Macipe explained that the 2026 Kings Tournament will have the participation of 40 men’s and 40 women’s teams, and has highlighted the educational component of the championship. “One of the most relevant aspects of this competition is the promotion of values. In this third edition we will once again include a values tournament within the competition itself, in which attitudes such as respect for rivals and referees, as well as taking care of locker rooms and benches, are rewarded,” he noted. These actions, he added, add points throughout the tournament and the team with the highest score will receive recognition, “an initiative that was excellently received last year and that reinforces the formative spirit of the sport.”
