Fuengirola has revalidated the excellence of its coastline in 2025, achieving all possible awards for the sixth consecutive year
100% of the Fuengirola coast has had Blue Flags, Q for Tourist Quality, S for Sustainability and Universal Accessibility Certificates
12/15/2025 – Fuengirola has revalidated the excellence of its coastline in 2025, achieving all possible awards for the sixth consecutive year. This was highlighted by the councilor of the sector, José Sánchez, in the annual balance of his council that he offered today, where he highlighted that 100% of the Fuengirola coast has had Blue Flags, Q for Tourist Quality, S for Sustainability and Universal Accessibility Certificates. Furthermore, this year for the first time, Fuengirola beach has obtained the Ecoplaya Flag.
“These certifications show the effort made by the City Council to make our Beaches some of the best in Spain, with more services, more care for the environment and the improvement in the accessibility of the facilities,” explained Sánchez, recalling in this sense that “we were the first municipality in the province of Malaga to install an adapted beach plot, also to adapt a moraga boat for people with reduced mobility and we continue to advance in that line. This year we have installed a new specific toilet for people with ostomies on El Castillo beach, which is added to the toilet that already exists on Las Gaviotas beach, launched last year to provide a hygienic and safe place for users with this type of characteristics.
SEPLA Plan
On the other hand, the councilor has highlighted the good functioning, for yet another year, of the SEPLA Plan (Safety Plan on the Beaches of Fuengirola). In this sense, Sánchez has detailed that in 2025 the health care, rescue, lifeguard and assisted bathing service “has been key to guaranteeing the safety of users with a total of 41,166 assistance services including health, prevention and aquatic accessibility interventions. There are 14,825 more actions than in 2024, mainly motivated by the increase in preventive work in Red Flag danger areas, since this year we have adapted the regulations and the people They cannot bathe when this flag flies, going from being a recommendation to being an obligation.”
Another aspect that the councilor has highlighted is that the Rescue and First Aid service has been distinguished this year as the best in Spain by the ADEAC, the association that awards the Blue Flags. “A recognition that we are proud of and that gives us peace of mind because we are safeguarded on our beaches by the best possible service,” said Sánchez.
The councilor has also highlighted the work carried out by the drone surveillance service of the Fuengirola coast, “which is the only one in the province that covers 100% of the beaches of the municipality. This year, the four aircraft – one for each beach – have carried out a total of 2,635 prevention, rescue, surveillance and training flights, also providing a complementary and very useful tool to the first-aid device in dangerous situations.”
Regarding the team of beach guards, Sánchez detailed that “the 14 guards carried out 36,686 interventions last summer, especially to inform users, control street vending and ball games, in addition to supporting the lifeguard service and ensuring compliance with municipal ordinances.”
On the other hand, Sánchez has also highlighted the work carried out by the cleaning and maintenance service “which has made a significant effort to keep our beaches in optimal conditions, responding in minimal time to acts of vandalism or breakdowns that occur on our coastline.”
Furthermore, in the 2025 season on the Fuengirola coast, around twenty training sessions have been carried out, including awareness-raising actions, cleaning of breakwaters and environmental education with the support of different organizations and associations. “These events turn our beaches into a space for learning and caring for the environment,” said Sánchez.
Promotional action in Madrid
For the second year, the City Council has developed a promotional action in Madrid, in collaboration with the capital’s City Council, “where in the Plaza de Chamberí, in the heart of the center, a Fuengirola beach was recreated with different elements, such as the sand from our beaches, a surveillance turret, a moraga boat and, of course, with the collaboration of our beach entrepreneurs, who served thousands of espetos.”
Once again this year, the Summer Cinema was held, offering four sessions with different blockbuster films. “It is an activity highly valued by users who come to the Marenostrum site to enjoy a few nights of leisure outdoors and to collaborate in solidarity with social associations of the municipality such as the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients and the Spanish Association Against Cancer.”
As a summary, the councilor pointed out that “we have urban beaches equipped with all types of services demanded by users. Beaches that are clean, well maintained, safe and accessible. It is no coincidence that every summer thousands of people come to spend their holidays in our municipality to enjoy our beaches.”
To conclude, José Sánchez thanked “the beach entrepreneurs of our city, as well as each and every one of the more than one hundred workers who daily put their effort into the beaches throughout the year, because thanks to their effort and dedication all of us can enjoy some of the best beaches in Spain.”
