The Fuengirola City Council begins a Plant Replantation Plan to replace more than 200 trees
The planning affects more than fifty public spaces in the city using up to eleven different species. Recently, the City Council has acted on Las Gaviotas Avenue, which already has a hundred new trees
12/9/2025 – Fuengirola City Council has started a new Plant Replanting Plan to replace more than 200 trees in more than fifty public spaces in the city. This was announced by the mayor Ana Mula and the councilor for Urban Ecology, José Sánchez, who have traveled to the Paseo Marítimo to review these works, which foresee the planting of eleven different species in those tree pits that have been left empty as a result of incidents or illness of the tree itself.

“Fuengirola has always been characterized by having beautiful streets, largely due to the City Council’s determined commitment to have adequate green areas and to plant, whenever accessibility conditions and space dimensions allow, trees in its streets, avenues and squares. Wherever possible, we always plant trees or create flower beds. But the truth is that, the passage of time, accidents, inclement weather, drought, misuse by some citizens, or even causes natural, have caused many of our trees to have died and had to be removed. We find ourselves with too many empty tree pits, which is also a risk for pedestrians, and an image that is not what we want for our city,” said the councilor.
In this way, the budget for this intervention amounts to 66,431.44 euros and is being carried out by the company Malagueña Forestal. Likewise, the document establishes an execution period of 50 days. The work began last week, around Palangreros Street, and will continue until it covers a total of 58 streets, avenues and squares in the town.
The action consists of planting about 200 trees to replace those that are in poor condition or directly in the empty tree pits. The technical documentation provides for the planting of species such as orange trees, tamarix, callistemon, celtis austrailis, albizia or syagrus romanzoffianum.
Likewise, the document foresees the placement of these new trees in places such as Miguel Ángel, Extremadura, Francisco Cano, Hernán Cortés, Río Guadalete, Infanta doña Elena, Troncón streets or the Paseo Marítimo itself, among others.
“Therefore, we continue working to improve the lives of Fuengirola residents and the image of each public space in the city,” concluded Ana Mula.
