The Local Police of Fuengirola carried out more than 80 traffic controls during the month of July

The agents detected 33 drivers who exceeded the maximum breathalyzer rate as well as 31 people circulating under the effects of drugs. This measure is part of the road safety reinforcement plan

8/22/2025 – The Local Police has carried out more than 80 traffic controls during the month of July. This was highlighted by the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Luis Ponce, who has detailed the data of this initiative, which is framed in the Reinforcement Plan of the Local Police.

“The vast majority of drivers comply with the rules, but the risk that the minority does not do, forces us to carry out measures aimed at guaranteeing road safety and preventing those who take a vehicle in poor condition. Fortunately, these controls are working and dissuade many people when it comes to the wheel when they are not in a position to do so,” explained the mayor.

In this regard, the data that the controls show indicate that the municipal order officials filed 33 complaints to people who were behind the wheel and exceeded the maximum alcohol limits and told 31 drivers who were using their vehicle under the effects of some narcotic substance.

In the same way, in the 86 controls carried out throughout the city during the last month of July, the agents promoted 23 sanctions for disturbing the silencer of the exhaust pipes by owners of mopeds or motorcycles.

In addition, the police intervening in these operations scored sanction bulletins for infractions such as having the technical inspection of expired vehicles, for not leading to the seat belt, for driving without the mandatory permission, or for using a mobile device at the wheel, among other breaches.

Finally, Ponce recalled that the Consistory has promoted an awareness campaign of road safety to influence four aspects: respect for urban speed limits at 30 kilometers per hour; the absolute incompatibility of alcohol consumption and drugs behind the wheel; the good use of personal mobility vehicles (electric scooters); as well as the need and convenience that all utilities have their technical inspection of vehicles (ITV) in force.

“True road safety begins with each and every one of those who circulate through the streets of Fuengirola. Both the City Council and the Local Police are putting everything on our part to be so, but it is useless without the collaboration of all: pedestrians, cyclists and drivers of mechanical traction vehicles,” he concluded.
