Fuengirola once again receives the national Platinum Broom for its management of cleaning in public spaces

The municipality now has five of these awards, obtained in the 2010, 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2026 editions, consolidating itself as a national benchmark in street cleaning and sustainability

6/11/2026 – The Fuengirola City Council has been awarded again with the Platinum Broom, the highest national recognition in urban cleaning and environmental management, awarded by the Technical Association for Waste Management and the Environment (ATEGRUS). The Councilor for Cleaning, Carmen Díaz, was in charge of collecting this prestigious award yesterday during an event held in Madrid.

With this new distinction, Fuengirola reaffirms its position as one of the Spanish cities most committed to the quality of its public spaces, sustainability and the continuous improvement of municipal services. The jury has especially valued the important renovation and modernization carried out in the machinery, vehicles and facilities used for street cleaning and waste collection, an action promoted by the City Council that has involved an investment of close to 8.5 million euros.

This strategic commitment has allowed us to incorporate zero-emission equipment and cutting-edge technology, improving the efficiency of the service and reducing its environmental impact. All of this demonstrates the firm municipal commitment to sustainability, innovation and the provision of increasingly effective and environmentally friendly public services.

The Platinum Broom obtained this year also constitutes a new milestone in Fuengirola’s trajectory of excellence in this area. This is the fifth time that the municipality participates in these awards and obtains the highest award, after having previously obtained it in the 2010, 2016, 2018 and 2022 editions.

The purpose of the Escoba Awards is to recognize, support and disseminate the best practices developed by public administrations and companies in urban cleaning, waste management and environmental protection, as well as to promote the implementation of innovative projects and new technologies aimed at sustainable city management.

This contest has been held since 1987 under the organization of ATEGRUS, an entity that awards the Silver, Gold and Platinum Brooms every two years to those institutions and organizations that stand out for their work in favor of the environment and urban cleaning.

The city of Fuengirola has a long history of recognition in this call. In 2006 he obtained the Silver Broom; in 2008, the Golden Broom; and has subsequently been awarded the Platinum Broom in the editions of 2010, 2016, 2018, 2022 and now, in 2026, consolidating a line of work sustained over time that places it among the most outstanding municipalities in Spain in the management of cleaning and care of the urban environment.
