Special attention will be paid to the removal of surpluses in the ecological islands, intensive washing, the surroundings of the beaches, as well as the management of waste and public spaces
5/25/2026 – Fuengirola City Council has activated a Special Cleaning Device on the occasion of the summer season, which will begin next June 1. To this end, the Department of the branch has reinforced the service staff with 28 more operators and has planned special services and means to keep the city in perfect condition in the face of the foreseeable population increase.
“Fuengirola is a city that stands out for the cleanliness and care of its public spaces. Sometimes, those of us who live here are not fully aware of it, but cleanliness is one of the aspects that our visitors value most and one of the main reasons why they choose to repeat as a tourist destination. This is not a coincidence. It is the result of a large municipal investment, constant planning and, above all, the daily and extraordinary work of the cleaning service operators, whom I want to publicly thank for their efforts. The season is already on the doorstep high, as is logical, we are already prepared to size the human and technical teams to the needs of the city. So that this notable increase in people that we are going to register is noticed as little as possible,” explained Mayor Ana Mula, who has presented the new features of the service together with the mayor of the Area, Carmen Díaz.

In this way, to the 240 workers that make up the service staff, 28 more operators will be added from next Monday, June 1, who will be distributed daily throughout the summer season.
Likewise, planning will pay special attention to reinforcing essential services such as the removal of surpluses in ecological islands and container areas; intensive washing, especially in areas with greater affluence such as the Paseo Marítimo; cleaning and collecting waste on beaches; strengthening urban solid waste collection services; and special cleaning and maintenance work on public roads.
To these works we must add those that are now active, such as the Special Device for Spots produced by the resins produced by the flowering of jacarandas or the Marenostrum Fuengirola concerts.
Likewise, those responsible for this municipal service have also designed special operations on the occasion of the great summer celebrations. Specifically, the Night of San Juan, the Los Boliches Fair, the Night in White, Night Viva, as well as the festivals of El Boquetillo, San Cayetano and Los Pacos.
“For all of them, specific cleaning devices are established that guarantee the rapid restoration of public spaces, without affecting the ordinary service. In short, it is a technical and coordinated planning that allows maintaining the quality levels of the service throughout the summer, guaranteeing a clean, cared for city and prepared for the increase in activity typical of this time,” Mula added.
Finally, the councilor has called for responsibility and good use of public spaces by Fuengirola residents and visitors. Everything so that Fuengirola “continues to be recognized as a clean and orderly place” inside and outside the municipal area.
