10/9/2025 -The municipal libraries of Fuengirola have registered a total of 15,882 users during the months of July and August, which represents an increase of 1,249 users with respect to the same period of the previous year, when 14,633 users were counted. The Councilor for Culture of the City of Fuengirola, Rodrigo Romero, highlighted the importance of this data, taking into account that for almost the entire month of July only the Cervantes and Lope de Vega libraries were operational. The new Fuertes Library, after its opening on July 29, was the most frequented in the city in August with a total of 3,757 registered users.

“We are very satisfied with how our libraries have worked this summer, an era that is always out of season, with reduced hours, without visits from schools or activity of the reading clubs. However, thanks to the opening of the Gloria Fuertes library, we have achieved numbers that in July had descended a lot when the Quevedo library was closed and then in August, when the Gloria Fortes were opened and the interest in this library has also been shot. New partners, with a total of 360 new registrations, a number much higher than that registered the previous year, when 250 new partners were counted, ”Romero explained.

The mayor has also highlighted the increase experienced in the number of users, “despite the fact that one of the libraries has been closed for a month practically, we have gone from 14,600 users in 2024 to 15,800 in July and August of 2025”. Romero has also pointed out that users registered in Fuengirola libraries have experienced an increase of more than 50% since 2023, when a total of 10,384 users were counted.

As for the loan of documents (books, magazines and audiovisual material) the mayor has indicated that in July and August the figure of 11,171 loans was reached. On the other hand, the press consultations and magazines were a total of 6,381.

“We get back to pride from the government team of the fantastic work that municipal workers do, in this case the librarians, because they are mostly women, and we congratulate them once again for that huge work they develop,” said Romero, who has invited “to all those who are not users of the libraries to which they approach and visit them, because they will find safe points with which they will find. other users or, simply, enjoy the magnificent facilities we have. ”
