9/11/2025 – The City of Fuengirola, through the Department of Sports and Education, has promoted the ‘Fuengirola Olympic’ cycle, which will consist of a series of talks, taught by the Fuengiroleña athlete María de Valdés, to form in the values of the young people of the city. This was released this morning the Councilors of Sports and Education, Julio Rodríguez and Carmen Díaz, respectively, together with the swimmer herself. The appointments will be on September 23 and 25 and October 14 and 21, at 12:30 pm. The first of them will be held at the Palacio de la Paz and the remaining will be developed in educational centers of the city.
“We are very happy to announce that the City of Fuengirola, transversely both the Department of Education and Sports, we will develop a program of training talks aimed at our schoolchildren, both from institutes and schools, about the excellence of Olympism and its values,” said Rodríguez, noting that “we are lucky to count in Fuengirola with a local reference that is also nationally and worldwide Valdés ”.
In this sense, the mayor has indicated that “we have long planned to transfer their effort, discipline, vital organization … and expand all that knowledge to our schoolchildren, who will learn how to overcome all the obstacles and problems that have been raised to Mary during her journey.”
‘Fuengirola Olympic’ is born as a cycle of four talks, “where we are going to promote healthy sport, healthy habits and make the role of women in sport. Because we also want Children, mirrors to imitate, and I am convinced that in these talks they will learn a lot and will surprise them all the trajectory that Maria has had since I was very young, because she almost learned to swim before walking, and how it has been overcoming barriers and levels. ”
It is an activity aimed mainly at young people and adolescents, “because 75% of sports abandonment comes between 16 and 18 years. That is why we want to give tools to our young people to learn to reconcile and that the sport is an important vehicle within their lives. If it is professionally, fantastic. But if not, that it is part of their vital pattern, to organize yourself, be disciplined and improve in the day to day,” Rodriguez explained.
For his part, Carmen Díaz has pointed out that “not every day there is the possibility of presenting Fuengirola students to an Olympic athlete. María de Valdés is not only a reference and a pride for the Fuengiroleños, it is also You want. ”
To conclude, María de Valdés has been “very proud” of being able to be part of this initiative “and that children can listen to the values that I want to convey. I want to teach them that not everything is competition, it is also companionship, perseverance and overcoming. And not only in the sports of competition, also in the amateur, so that they can enjoy the practice of sport in their day to day. It is a pleasure for my power.
