The Fuengirola Local Police intensifies surveillance against the misuse of scooters
Processes nearly 300 complaints during the first quarter of the year; most of them from driving on the sidewalk or pedestrian areas. The City Council is finalizing the file for the new ordinance that will regulate the use of these personal mobility vehicles and make the use of helmets mandatory.
04/10/2026.- The Fuengirola Local Police has intensified surveillance against the misuse of scooters, processing nearly 300 complaints during the first quarter of 2026, as reported today by the mayor Ana Mula, together with the Councilor for Mobility, Isabel González, and the chief mayor of the Local Police, Sergio Luna.
“The use of these personal mobility vehicles has already become frequent and has caused dysfunctions in the circulation of the city. We have to get used to them and their users to integrate and respect the traffic rules. To guarantee correct coexistence, the Local Police is aware of their traffic and we are promoting information campaigns in the municipal media,” explained the councilor.
Of the 278 complaints registered by municipal agents, between January 1 and March 31, the majority have to do with the driving of these vehicles on sidewalks or pedestrian areas. To a lesser extent, they have sanctioned infractions such as driving with passengers on board, carrying heavy objects or failing to comply with road or traffic light signs.
In this regard, Mula recalled that the City Council has included in the 2026 Regulatory Plan an ordinance to regulate the use of these personal mobility vehicles in the city. The main measure adopted will be, as has been pointed out, the mandatory helmet for its drivers.
“The text is already finalized and will soon be submitted to a vote by the Local Government Board, and then to the Plenary Session. The objective of this document is to guarantee coexistence between these devices and the rest of the vehicles, as well as with pedestrians,” concluded the highest authority of the town.
