This Friday, the Marina hosts the first ‘Ciudad de Fuengirola’ Intercenter Chess Tournament
Students from seven secondary schools in the city will participate in a team competition that will begin at 10:00 a.m.
5/12/2026 – The Fuengirola Marina will host this Friday, May 15, starting at 10:00 a.m., the first edition of the ‘Ciudad de Fuengirola’ Intercenter Chess Tournament, a new educational and sports initiative that will bring together students from seven Secondary Education centers in the municipality. This was announced this morning by the Councilors for Port and Education of the City Council, José Sánchez and Carmen Díaz, respectively, together with the IES professors Eduardo Janeiro, María González and Carolina Márquez.
The tournament is promoted by the IES Eduardo Janeiro in collaboration with the Fuengirola City Council and was created with the aim of promoting values such as concentration, camaraderie, strategic thinking and coexistence through chess among young people.
A total of 70 students will participate in this first edition, since each of the seven educational centers will compete with a team made up of ten students. The competition will take place in the central square of the Marina, an emblematic location in the city that will serve as the setting for an educational and recreational day open to the public.
The councilors have highlighted the importance of continuing to promote activities that combine sport and education, while promoting participation and coexistence between students from different educational centers in the municipality.
Likewise, they have explained that this is the first time that an inter-center chess tournament has been organized in Fuengirola and they have advanced that the intention is to consolidate this initiative in future editions, also expanding it to the participation of Primary Education students.
In addition to the sports competition, different activities related to the environment and sustainability will be carried out during the day. Among them, an environmental awareness workshop given by Gestagua stands out, as well as other proposals included within a project to make the Marina visible and energize promoted by the IES Eduardo Janeiro.
The City Council encourages neighbors and visitors to come to the Marina on Friday to enjoy this activity and support the young participants in this day of learning and coexistence.
