Seniors and Sports organize a new hiking route to encourage outdoor activity among older people
It will be held this Saturday, May 23, at 9:00 a.m., leaving from Pedro Cuevas Square to reach the border with the neighboring municipality of Benalmádena along the Paseo Marítimo. Registration is free and can be done at the Senior Citizens’ offices on Blanca Paloma Street, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
5/20/2026 – The Senior Citizens and Sports areas of the Fuengirola City Council have organized a new hiking route with the aim of promoting outdoor physical activity among the city’s elderly people. The initiative will take place this Saturday, May 23, starting at 9:00 a.m., leaving from Pedro Cuevas Square in Los Boliches after a warm-up. The councilors of Social Welfare and Sports, Cristina Bornao and Julio Rodríguez, respectively, have given more details of this activity.

“Today we present one of the activities most loved by our elders, which are the urban hiking activities that we organize transversally with the Department of Sports and that on this occasion will take us to the wooden walkway of the Senda Litoral that connects Fuengirola with Benalmádena,” explained Bornao.
In this sense, the councilor has indicated that “in these activities we always provide a healthy snack and for this it is essential to know in advance how many people are going to participate. Therefore, it is necessary to register in advance at the Senior Citizens’ offices on Blanca Paloma Street, from nine in the morning to one in the afternoon.”
For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez, has indicated that “once again we organize a hiking activity in a transversal manner with the Department of Families, Equality and Social Welfare. It is one more opportunity to spend a day of leisure, entertainment and sports with the family. From the Department of Sports we are going to prepare a joint training that we will begin at nine in the morning in Pedro Cuevas Square before beginning the walk.”
Regarding the hiking route, the mayor has indicated that “it will be a very simple and accessible route, for beginners, because it is at sea level, in a straight line from Pedro Cuevas Square to the end of the Paseo Marítimo in Carvajal, where we have that wooden walkway of the Senda Litoral that we inaugurated a year ago and that connects us with the neighboring municipality of Benalmádena. It is three and a half kilometers away to there and as many back. In total it will be seven kilometers.”
To conclude, Rodríguez has encouraged all older people to participate, “because it is a healthy activity that has no cost for the participants. You just have to register and spend a Saturday morning enjoying the outdoors and practicing sports.”
