Fuengirola City Council reinforces security with the provision of 20 new Local Police positions

Twelve police officers are already undergoing their training process and will join the service soon, while the City Council has already approved the creation of eight new positions. The police force is currently made up of 146 officials, being below the police per inhabitant ratio established by the FEMP.

7/5/2026 – Fuengirola City Council will reinforce security with the provision of 20 new Local Police positions. Mayor Ana Mula has reported this measure, which is intended to improve the service that this body provides to the city.

“Fuengirola is a safe and orderly city. A few months ago I reported that we were going to take a series of measures to reinforce security, because for this mayor and her Government team, security and order are absolute priorities. Among them, the increase in the number of Local Police agents,” said the councilor, who appeared alongside the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Luis Ponce, and the chief mayor of this municipal institution, Sergio Luna.

Thus, in the last ordinary Plenary Session, the modification of the List of Jobs was approved to incorporate eight new police officers. These will join the twelve who, after the recent opposition process, are already carrying out their training process at the Andalusian Local Police School.

In this sense, Mula has pointed out that the Fuengirola Local Police currently has a staff of 146 officers. This means, according to the population level of the municipality, that there is one police officer for every 581 Fuengirola residents. A ratio that improves the 667 recommended by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).

With the future incorporation of the aforementioned 20 new officials, this numerical ratio will be reduced to 511 agents for each resident in Fuengirola, placing the force below the 556 set by the European Union.

This increase in personnel is added to the seventeen that during the last five years the City Council has incorporated into the Fire Extinction and Prevention Corps, which currently has 35 agents. The most equipped Firefighters team in its 40 years of existence.

“Therefore, we continue to fulfill and take steps in terms of security commitments. To establish ourselves as an increasingly safe and orderly place. So that Fuengirola residents and visitors know that they are safe here and that, if anything happens, we have the appropriate means to act quickly and effectively,” Ana Mula concluded.
