3/13/2026 – Next Saturday, March 21, the Peace Palace of Fuengirola will host a new Iberian Sinfonietta concert within the Community Concerts cycle, an event already consolidated in the city’s cultural programming that will bring the public closer to some of the great works of the classical repertoire along with the premiere of a new contemporary composition. The recital will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will have free admission until capacity is reached.

The Councilor for Culture of the Fuengirola City Council, Rodrigo Romero, has presented this concert. “On March 21, the Community Concerts of Iberian Sinfonietta return to the Peace Palace, directed by Juan Paulo Gómez, who for years have offered us the best of classical music with high-quality programs,” said the mayor.

The concert will open with the absolute premiere of the work ‘Caldo de Culturas’, by the composer Silvia Oliveros Anarte, a piece that is incorporated for the first time into the group’s repertoire. Subsequently, the program will continue with ‘Variations on a Rococo Theme’ by Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky, one of the most outstanding compositions for cello and orchestra, and will culminate with Symphony No. 40 in G minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of the most emblematic works of the symphonic repertoire.

For this occasion, Iberian Sinfonietta will feature the young cellist Álvaro Lozano Cames as soloist, a performer who has already been recognized by critics for his virtuosity and musical sensitivity.

Highlighted by critics both for his virtuosity and for his deep musical sense, Álvaro Lozano Cames (2006) studies with Sabrina Rui and Carmen Mª Elena, and since 2020 he has been training with Pavel Gomziakov at the Barenboim-Said Academy of Orchestral Studies. He is currently studying at the Reina Sofía Higher School of Music with Professor Jens Peter Maintz, who received a scholarship from Planeta and the Albéniz Foundation.

He is a member of the Arriaga Quartet and the Alma Mahler Trio, and has scholarships from the Málaga Foundation and the Musikakademie in Liechtenstein.

Juan Paulo Gómez, director

The concert will be directed by Juan Paulo Gómez, musical and artistic director of Iberian Sinfonietta and the Malaga Provincial Youth Orchestra. He began his career as a conductor at the age of 17 and, after more than three decades of experience, he has developed intense artistic and pedagogical activity, directing numerous orchestral formations at a national and international level.

Since 2006 he has combined his artistic work with teaching, being Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Malaga, where he continues to train new generations of musicians.
