The Tourism Board demands from the central Government a Beach Stabilization Plan and urgent improvements to the Fuengirola railway network

The mayor and six tourism business groups have signed a manifesto to demand State investments in the city. The latest storms have left damage on the Fuengirola coast valued at nearly 600,000 euros, according to technical reports from the City Council

2/23/2026 – The Tourism Board has demanded from the central Government a Beach Stabilization Plan and urgent improvements to the Fuengirola railway network. Mayor Ana Mula has signed, together with the representatives of six tourism business groups, a manifesto to demand State investments in the city in both areas, as well as to improve the pavement of the province’s road network, and put an end to the problems it is causing in the local economy and image.

“Beaches and rail transport are not accessory issues, they are essential pillars of our economic and social model. We have been asking the Government for improvements in both for years, but, far from meeting these fair demands, they are getting worse and are beginning to feel negative. We need the State to take these demands seriously and act,” the councilor said at the end of this meeting.

The conclave was attended by the Tourism delegate in Malaga, Carlos García, as well as representatives of Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol SLU, independent Hotel Entrepreneurs, CEPYME, Bioparc Fuengirola, Radio Taxi Fuengirola and the Fuengirola Hoteliers Association. All of them have signed the document that urges the national Executive to develop a definitive Stabilization Plan for the beaches of Fuengirola, to provide decent and safe railway infrastructure, as well as to execute a strategic investment for the town and the destination Costa del Sol that corresponds to its level of wealth generation and the number of inhabitants who live in the area.

In this sense, the document has revealed that the Fuengirola coast has suffered damage to infrastructure, equipment, access and the coastline itself valued at 571,575 euros as a result of the successive storms recorded between December and February.

In this regard, the signatories have demanded “structural and not merely palliative” actions in the face of the continuous problems of the regression of their sandbanks.

Improvements in the railway network

On the other hand, the City Council and the other signatory entities have highlighted the inconveniences that the accident that occurred, just over a month ago, in Adamuz is causing in high-speed rail connectivity in the province. A line that is no longer bringing thousands of tourists and visitors, as it has not yet been 100% restored.

To this we must add the “continuous” problems, in the form of delays and breakdowns, suffered by the Cercanías train line that connects Fuengirola with the capital, which, according to the manifesto, harms “thousands of workers, students and visitors every day.”

For all these reasons, the document signed during the Tourism Roundtable itself ends up calling on the Government of Spain to “prioritize these actions as strategic State investments, taking into account the contribution of the Costa del Sol to the national GDP; the weight of tourism in the Spanish economy; the demographic and business growth of Fuengirola, the province of Malaga; and the need to guarantee security, stability and competitiveness.”
