Fuengirola City Council and AFA join forces to improve the well-being of the elderly in the new El Boquetillo Day Center

The mayor and the president of this local social entity, which will manage it for the next fifteen years, have visited the facilities after completing the works. This is an electoral commitment of the current Government team that will enter service soon to serve 40 dependent users and offer a respite to their families.

11/2/2026 – Fuengirola City Council and the Association of Relatives of Patients with Alzheimer’s and Other Dementia (AFA) of Fuengirola and Mijas Costa have joined forces to improve the well-being of the elderly in the new El Boquetillo Day Center. The works on this facility were recently completed and the Municipal Plenary Session unanimously approved the temporary and free transfer of the aforementioned premises to this entity to carry out its work of caring for up to 40 dependent elderly people.

“Attention to our elderly is essential. We are an Andalusian city with a higher life expectancy, according to the National Institute of Statistics, and that is because we offer excellent services and a great quality of life is felt here. Therefore, one of my commitments was to continue providing equipment to our elderly. We have fulfilled this and it is now a reality,” stated the councilor.

The surface of the premises is 626.55 square meters and it occupies part of Miguel Bueno and Menorca streets – on the ground floor of the Elola Complex, next to the El Boquetillo Mayor’s Office. This space has recently been adapted by the City Council for use as a day center, with the capacity to serve a total of 40 users.

The facilities have several living rooms, an occupational therapy classroom, dining room, rehabilitation area, kitchen, as well as toilets, changing rooms, storage spaces and units necessary for the correct operation and maintenance of this type of care centers.

This project, which responds to a commitment from the Government team, has been financed thanks to a subsidy granted by the Junta de Andalucía, with funds from the European Union through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – NextGeneration EU. The investment has amounted to 1,025,255.73 euros.

AFA Fuengirola Mijas Costa is a non-profit entity, declared of public utility, which currently manages the only day center specialized in these characteristics in the municipality, in Los Pacos. The plenary agreement was adopted in accordance with the regulations governing the assets of local entities, after the processing of the corresponding administrative file, which accredits both the general and social interest of the intended use as well as the heritage nature of the property and its urban adaptation. The concession period is fifteen years, extendable for another fifteen.
