Fuengirola City Council reinforces security and order in 2025 with the implementation of a specific plan for the Local Police

Among the measures adopted this year are the installation of more video cameras, the incorporation of more agents, more traffic controls and police foot patrols in neighborhoods and parks

12/18/2025 – Fuengirola City Council has reinforced security and order in the city in 2025 with the implementation of a specific plan for the Local Police. This was highlighted today by the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Luis Ponce, during the annual review of the department’s activity, presented at a press conference. Among the main measures adopted this year are the expansion of the video surveillance system, the reinforcement of police and fire personnel, the increase in traffic controls and the intensification of foot patrols in neighborhoods and parks.

“Citizen security is one of the fundamental pillars of municipal management and, as such, it is given the importance it deserves, both in resources and in human and material means that guarantee the security of the city,” said Ponce. In this sense, he explained that the 2025 data reflects “effective planning and forceful preventive action when necessary, especially in road safety, leisure and large-scale events, without neglecting daily police management.”

The mayor has detailed the main devices deployed throughout the year, starting with the Three Kings Parade, which required special flexibility in its planning due to the forecast of rain. “It was necessary to modify the schedule and adapt the operation to the new circumstances to guarantee the safety of all attendees,” he explained.

One of the fundamental axes has been the special security device during the summer, a period in which more than 11,600 hours of police service were allocated in an extraordinary manner. “These hours have had a decisive impact on security during a time in which the city is multiplying its population and its tourist and commercial activity, helping to mitigate possible negative effects and, above all, to transmit a feeling of security,” he stressed.

Likewise, Ponce has highlighted the permanent road safety campaign, which was especially relevant during the summer months, when between three and six daily checks were carried out. Added to this is the coordinated effort in terms of beach safety, in collaboration with the Department of Beaches. In this area, the councilor recalled that Fuengirola was recognized as the municipality with the best rescue and first aid service in Spain.

The annual balance also highlights the absence of major incidents in mass events such as the International Countries Fair, the Carmen Festival of Los Boliches, the Rosario Fair, the Marenostrum concerts or the Night of San Juan, among others.

Regarding the protection of victims of gender violence, the councilor has indicated that the Local Police maintains “constant, close and coordinated collaboration with the National Police”, reinforcing and updating the procedures of the VioGen system again this year.

Cooperation with other State security forces and bodies also extends to the control of jet skis during the summer, developed jointly with the Civil Guard. In this area, Fuengirola once again positioned itself as the municipality on the Costa del Sol with the highest number of controls carried out last year.

Effective emergency response

Ponce has also highlighted the capacity to respond to emergency situations. “Both in the rainy episode recorded in February, as in the one that occurred last month, or recently during the wind storm a few days ago, the action of the Local Police and Firefighters was quick, efficient and effective, allowing the city to normalize in a few hours,” he indicated.

The modernization of material and human resources has been another of the key axes in 2025. Regarding material resources, the mayor has highlighted the expansion of the video surveillance system, which already has nearly 300 cameras distributed throughout the city and managed through artificial intelligence systems, with special emphasis on improving road safety. He has also announced that during this year the administrative process for the improvement works at the Fire Station, which will begin in 2026, has been completed, as well as the acquisition of new vehicles for the Local Police and the implementation of a comprehensive emergency management system, which will come into operation next year.

Regarding the reinforcement of personnel, Ponce recalled that in 2025, nine new firefighters have been incorporated, or are in the process of being incorporated, which represents an increase of almost 30% of the workforce, and 14 new members of the Local Police, which represents an approximate increase of 10%.

Finally, the councilor has pointed out the control of the use of personal mobility vehicles as another of the year’s priorities, with nearly 600 complaints filed for non-compliance related to the use of electric scooters.
