The Fuengirola City Council finalizes the creation of a Day Center for the Elderly in El Boquetillo
The works are financed with European Funds and constitute the fulfillment of an electoral commitment of the mayor. The work, which is around 95% complete, consists of the adaptation of a municipal premises on Menorca Street and will be able to serve 40 dependent people.
11/17/2025 – Fuengirola City Council is finalizing the works to create a Day Center for Seniors in El Boquetillo. The work, which is around 95% complete, consists of the adaptation of a municipally owned premises located on the ground floor of the Elola Complex and will be able to serve 40 people dependent on the city. This project, which is a commitment of the Government team, is financed by a subsidy granted by the Regional Government of Andalusia from the European Union within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – NextGeneration-EU, as explained by the mayor Ana Mula, accompanied by the councilors of Urban Planning, Rocío Arriaga, and of Families, Equality and Social Welfare, Cristina Bornao.

“Attention to our elderly is essential. We are the Andalusian city with the highest life expectancy, according to the National Institute of Statistics, and that is because we offer excellent services and a great quality of life is felt here. Therefore, one of my priorities is to continue providing equipment to our elderly. I committed to creating a Day Center, and this is getting closer to becoming a reality,” said Mula.
The surface area of the premises in which it is being built is 626.55 square meters and occupies part of Miguel Bueno and Menorca streets – on the ground floor of the Elola Complex, next to the El Boquetillo Mayor’s Office. The basic project foresees the provision of just over 550 useful square meters to offer care and support services to around 40 elderly people in Fuengirola.
The construction document, prepared by the City Council, provides for the provision of two living rooms, one for occupational therapy, a dining room, a room for rehabilitation work, a kitchen, as well as toilets, changing rooms, storage rooms and those for the operation and maintenance of this type of facilities.
The work is being carried out by the company Maracof for an amount of 1,025,255.73 euros, about 200,000 euros less than what was initially budgeted in the bidding process. The execution period is 240 days, so it is expected that the work will be completed before the end of this year.
