8/19/2025 – The City of Fuengirola is reinforcing the conservation of its heritage with new actions in sources, murals and historical pieces. This has been announced today by the Councilor for Culture of the City of Fuengirola, Rodrigo Romero, who has reported on various actions in progress to guarantee the maintenance and restoration of the artistic and monumental heritage of the city.
Romero recalled that, in addition to the usual cultural programming, from the culture area we also work on the conservation of the public ornament, “elements that we see in our day to day in the streets and that, without the proper maintenance, they would deteriorate inexorably.”
In this sense, the mayor has explained that different contracts have been launched to ensure the conservation of sculptures, sources, murals and historical pieces. Thus, Romero has indicated that a contract for the maintenance of public sources and sculptures has been awarded.
“After the retirement of the municipal ceramic teacher, Charo García, who was in charge of these tasks, the City Council has awarded a four -year contract for an amount of 45,788 euros,” Romero said. The works will be carried out in a rotating manner during the year. Among the planned actions is the replacement of a source seagull Mare Nostrumin the Rotonda de Mercacenter, damaged because of a vandalism. The repair will be executed in autumn, after the Rosary Fair.
In addition, the restoration of murals of the open museum will also be carried out. Thanks to a subsidy of tourist municipality, a total of 111,000 euros will be invested in the restoration of two emblematic murals of the city, the work of Pedro Escalona and Enrique Brinkmann, whose states present “serious difficulties”. The contract has already been signed and the work will begin after the previous technical analysis carried out.
On the other hand, as Romero explained, through a contract of 88,000 euros and an execution period of 18 months, the restoration of all the cannons of the city will be carried out, both those located in the Sohail Castle and those set forth in the city museum and on the Paseo Marítimo. “They are very deteriorated for a long time and we want our historical heritage to be in the best conditions,” Romero said.
With these actions, which together total an investment of more than 240,000 euros, the culture area reinforces its commitment to the conservation and enhancement of the artistic and historical heritage of Fuengirola, guaranteeing that neighbors and visitors can continue enjoying it in the best possible state.
