2/3/2026 – The zarzuela will return to the Peace Palace on Friday, February 27, starting at 8:00 p.m., led by the Teatro Lírico Andaluz company, which will perform the play ‘La del manojo de rosas’. This was announced by the Councilor for Culture of the Fuengirola City Council, Rodrigo Romero, accompanied by the director of Teatro Lírico Andaluz, Pablo Prados, who explained that tickets for the performance are priced at 10 euros for the stalls and 15 euros for the boxes and can be purchased on the website. https://entradas.fuengirola.esat the information point of the Miramar Shopping Center or at the Peace Palace box office from two hours before the start of the performance.
“Our commitment to zarzuela has been based in Fuengirola for many years and the commitment we have with such a Spanish genre, to which we have so much love and which we have been promoting for many years together with Teatro Lírico Andaluz, is widely recognized,” said Romero, indicating that “the next play we will be able to see will be on February 27, La del jojo de rosas, by maestro Sorozábal, at the Palacio de la Paz starting at eight in the afternoon.”
For his part, Pablo Prados has pointed out that “our company will never be sufficiently grateful to the Fuengirola City Council for its firm commitment, for so many years, to the Spanish lyrical genre. Zarzuela, like opera, is a classic and classics are maintained over time due to their quality. It is a classic and it is Spanish culture with capital letters.”
Regarding ‘La del manojo de rosas’, Prados has highlighted that “it is a traditional zarzuela, set in Madrid in the 1930s. It is very fun, hilarious, people have a blast and it is a work that always triumphs.”
Synopsis
We meet in the mid-thirties in a square in traditional Madrid. Ascensión, a beautiful, young and cheerful girl, runs a flower shop. In front of it is a mechanical workshop where Joaquín works, a handsome boy who, even though he enjoys a good social and economic position, poses as a mechanic in order to conquer Ascensión, and thus not hurt her, since she, although she once enjoyed a very high social class, now life has taken a turn and belongs to a humble family.
On the other hand, Ricardo appears, a young heartthrob for whom life smiles, and he is presented to us as another candidate to win the heart of the young protagonist. Both her father, Don Daniel, and his high social position are favorable in the fight for Ascensión’s love.
Although the girl leans in favor of Joaquín because she is from the same social class, one day she discovers his deception, at which point she renounces him because she feels hurt.
Luck takes a turn that changes the social position of the characters, and therefore the decisions they have to make. Between the flower shop and the workshop is a neighborhood bar where all the most colorful characters appear there, as is the case of Espasa, a man who tries to avoid all traditional or vulgar words and replace them with technicalities, which continually makes the viewer laugh.
A fun farce, with characters that make the viewer enjoy and that in turn contains a didactic purpose: choosing with your heart or reason the person with whom you will share all the adversities and joys of this life.
