Ana Mula: “The common work between Fuengirola residents and the City Council has made possible a present and a future of growth and modernization at an extraordinary pace”

The mayor takes stock of the two years of the current mandate and focuses on the implementation of key projects to consolidate the transformation of the municipality. It emphasizes that its priority government axes focus on access to housing, employment, security, the creation of parking, as well as cleaning and beautification

11/5/2025 – “The common work between Fuengirola residents and the City Council has made possible a present and a future of growth and modernization at an extraordinary pace.” This is how Mayor Ana Mula began her speech during the city’s State Plenary Session held today at City Hall just over two years into the development of the current municipal mandate. In her speech, the mayor emphasized the good progress of the council’s management, which she detailed in five strategic axes: access to housing, the creation of favorable conditions for employment, the reinforcement of security, the creation of parking, as well as the cleaning and beautification of public spaces.

“I always say that everything we have achieved so far, which is a lot, has been the result of the joint effort of the people of Fuengirola and their City Council – the Government team and municipal workers -. A common work that has made possible a present and a future of growth and modernization at an extraordinary pace: we advance faster and with more solvency than the rest of the municipalities and that is, above all, thanks to the people of Fuengirola. We are a hard-working, committed, hard-working people, who attract and run companies generators of employment, that strives to be better and better, that helps those who need it, integrative, never exclusive. We are a different, unique town, in which the fundamental value is the people of Fuengirola. You are the greatest asset of Fuengirola,” he stated.

In this regard, the councilor has based the management guidelines of the team she leads on five axes. The first of them is to facilitate access to housing for young people, families and seniors with few resources. In this sense, he highlighted that his executive has promoted 82 affordable rental properties since the last municipal mandate. The most recent are the fifteen apartments in Los Pacos – whose works have already been completed – plus another 24 properties in Carvajal – still under construction.

Likewise, it has been reported that the local Administration will begin, in 2026, the tender for a new file to promote more Municipal Support Housing for an amount of twelve million euros.

The second axis has to do with generating favorable conditions to create employment. In this case, Mula has highlighted that the Municipal Exchange has annually inserted more than 200 unemployed Fuengirola residents during the current mandate and that the unemployment figures (4,489 people in November) are the best in the last seventeen years. At the same time, it has announced the launch of 49 new free courses for the unemployed in 2026 to improve their education and training for the labor market.

The third section that Ana Mula highlighted is citizen security, which has influenced the implementation of a specific Plan to improve the operation of the Local Police and the city’s Fire Department. The objective, as has been explained, “is to reinforce the feeling that Fuengirola is a safe and orderly city.”

Regarding cleaning and beautification of the neighborhoods, the highest municipal representative has indicated that the City Council dedicates an annual investment of around fifteen million euros to keep the city clean. Likewise, it has announced the renewal of the conservation and beautification service – endowed with nearly two million euros annually – as well as the implementation of a Special Asphalt Plan with one million euros of investment.

Strategic infrastructures

Finally, the mayor has made reference to another issue that concerns her Government, which is the creation of parking spaces. To the more than 400 parking spaces made available to Fuengirola residents, during the current government period, the 1,000 underground parking spaces will be added under the new Santa Fe-Antonio Basilio stadium. As Ana Mula herself has already announced, during the presentation of the 2026 budget, the drafting and work of this strategic infrastructure will soon go out to public bidding, which is also an electoral commitment with which she participated in the last municipal elections.

Likewise, the mayor has referred to other projects of great interest for the future of the city, such as Mercacentro – whose works will be completed at the end of 2026, according to technical forecasts -; the Youth Center, which will open its doors in the first half of next year; the Theater and Cultural Center, which will experience progress throughout the next year; the Sports Mountain, whose execution will be done in phases; or the remodeling of the Marina, “whose preliminary project is being modified by the technical drafters after being approved by the Junta de Andalucía and reviewed by the Coastal Demarcation.”

On the other hand, Mula has referred to the infrastructures that, although not under municipal jurisdiction, directly affect the lives of Fuengirola residents, as well as the growth of the city. Thus, he has valued the progress that the Andalusian Government has made in terms of health, with the launch – after almost 20 years of waiting – of the Los Pacos Health Center or the expansion of the Los Boliches Health Center. However, he has stated that he will continue to demand all the equipment that Fuengirola residents need.

“First, the Emergencies, because they are a peremptory need, a historical and precise demand to the maximum for our neighbors. Every week, insistently, I maintain contact with the Junta de Andalucía to advance in this essential health service. I assure you that I will do what I have to do so that Fuengirola has an Emergency service. Because it is necessary and because it is fair,” he stated.

In the same way, he mentioned the construction of the new Picasso School, “which is now a reality after years of waiting”, as well as the remodeling of the bus station, for which he assured that he has agreed with the regional administration on the tender for the adaptation of the current station.

And as far as the State is concerned, the first mayor has once again demanded the construction of a new National Police Station. In this sense, he recalled that he has proposed by letter to the Ministry of the Interior that it could be located on land owned by the Ministry of Transportation located on Alcalde Clemente Díaz Avenue. A proposal that, as has been stressed, has not received a response from the Government.

Finally, Ana Mula concluded her presentation with two conclusions: that people are the center of her Government’s action, and on the other hand, the commitment of her team and the municipality itself to continue achieving future objectives to guarantee the quality of life and well-being of Fuengirola residents in the city.

“I’m talking about the Fuengirola Model of municipal management: direct attention to our neighbors, to each of the sectors of our city, solving their needs, betting on ambitious projects, helping everyone who needs it, taking care of our neighborhoods, promoting the economic strength that characterizes us. And, of course, responsible management of the money of the people of Fuengirola. Let’s continue fulfilling dreams, advancing in the transformation of this city to which I love and give and will give all my effort and dedication,” he said. concluded.
